Blog #6

So this week I haven't been quite on top of my game. I didn't read much this week and I really regret it. So I am hoping by my next blog I will be finished with We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. I am just going to do I recap of what all has happened.

While vacationing on her grandfathers private island every summer, Cadence Sinclair Eastman has a hard time remembering the circumstances that lead up to her injury, two summers before. Cadence spends memorable summers visiting her grandfather's island near Cape Cod, where she become best friends with her cousins, Johnny and Mirren, and Gat, her aunts husbands nephew, (which she has a little lovey lovey with ooo) Cadence refers to her Cousins, Gat, and herself as the liars. After spending one summer away with her father in Europe,Cadence comes back to Beach wood. She starts trying to put together how she hurt her head 2 years prior. And soon we will find out! Ill catch you up as soon as I finish!:)

We Were Liars: Vocab

We Were Liars is still just a great book. Cadence is still telling her story of her summers on the island. With adventures and scary situations. I am about half way through and I still like it just as much when I started. I wanted to write about something a little different this week rather than the usual. The author E. Lockhart uses great vocab and diction that luckily since I have my kindle I can look it up right then and there. For example she uses the word suboptimal. I have never heard this word before, but she writes, "He looks at his hands, "Okay. Sorry. That was extremely suboptimal of me just now. Are you angry?" (pg 86) I couldn't even use context clues on this one. But it means- of less than the highest standard or quality.

Another example is the word idyll. Strangest word I think Ive ever heard. And idyll means- an extremely happy, peaceful period or situation. "No summer like we idyll used to have." (pg. 81), E. Lockhart writes. There are many more but those 2 just stood out to me the most.

We were Liars Update

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart is moving forward quickly. Each chapter is a different time in her life which helps to bring the story of Cadence Sinclair together. The Sinclair's are described as very uptight people and that's how they just were, they envied people's curiosity toward them.  "We do not discuss our problems in restaurants. We do not believe in displays of distress. Our upper lips are stiff, and it is possible people are curious about us because we do not show them our hearts." (pg.38) This shows they do not discuss their feelings with each other and never please to show love or kindness. I can relate because I know many people who are like that, but for me I'm certainly the one to give away my motions.

I brought up the Sinclair being like that, because the main character Cadence Sinclair never really acts like a Sinclair. She describes herself as being immune to the views of the Sinclair family. And constantly repeats that sometimes she's not like them, it was just how she was brought up to be like. I wonder if she does hidden have traits of her family, that we soon may find out.

We Were Liars: Beginning

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart takes place on a private island of Cadence Sinclair Eastman's grandfather. Cadence is the main character and the novel is told in her perspective (first person). She visits every summer to the island and has many memorable experiences. While on the island near Cape Cod that summer Cadence struggles to forget the circumstances that had happened to years prior, leading up to a near death experience.

But now she has grown to her friends/cousins, Johnny, Mirren, and Gat. They together are called the liars. And have their own group that they spend together every summer on the private island. Gat is her aunts husbands nephew who is now romantically involved. I wonder why they are called the liars. I am only a few chapters in and excited to see what becomes of the group of friends.
